WHAT KIND OF EXPERTISE DO I NEED?
Computer science, business informatics, electrical engineering, economics… It`s not only about developing, we also value your marketing and business skills. The main criteria is an insatiable curiosity for solving tasks and thinking in new ways.
HOW CAN I APPLY?
A brief motivation statement is required in the application. Tell us why you are exactly the right candidate for this hackathon! We are curious to hear about your ideas, skills and experience in a video or a presentation or do you have an online profile you want to show us?
Some guidance what we would like to hear from you: Why are you the perfect candidate? What is your motivation behind? Which projects did you work on in your free time, your studies or at work? How did you approach the problem and what was the project result? Do you have any ideas in mind you would like to realize?
HOW IS THE SELECTION PROCESS?
Applications will be reviewed and evaluated by our application experts based on your presentation skills, problem solving skills and technical understanding.
The organization team aims to have a heterogenous group of participants, consisting of young and motivated people from as many countries as possible.
WHAT`S NEXT?
Registration is open until one hundred applicants have been selected. The sooner you apply, the higher the chance of being one of them. You will get a feedback from us within three weeks after you have finalized your application.
One month before the event, all participants can join our SICK Solution Hackathon online platform. There, you can meet other participants, get familiar with the hard- and software from SICK and our partners and chat with the experts you will meet at the Hackathon.
100 SELECTED PARTICIPANTS WILL GET FREE TRAVEL TO GERMANY AND ACCOMMODATION IN FREIBURG FOR THE EVENT.

What are the challenges you can participate in?
These four challenges give you ideas in which area you can use your creativity. You can either choose from these tasks or realize your own ideas.
MAKE IT MOVE
The biggest task lies in movement, because the requirements for mobile robots and platforms are very complex: Where am I? What does my environment look like? How can I reach my destination safely? What can be done while moving from A to B? What task must be completed at the destination?
That's the challenge: to detect everything in the environment, not missing anything, avoiding obstacles and reaching the destination safely.
MAKE IT EASY
Your daily life is automated. Whether you're sitting on the couch, in the office, or working on a machine, opportunities to automate everyday challenges are everywhere. But the simplicity is often in the details. The solutions are not always obvious, but their effects are indispensable.
That’s the challenge: Make complicated things simple. Bring your ideas to life and simplify everyday activities with voice assistance, remote control, service robots or any other idea you have.
MAKE IT VISIBLE
What if you no longer needed a crystal ball? The predictability of events is based on sensor data. This data helps to make production processes more effective and more competitive. With your help we make the data visible and actionable.
That's the challenge: Sounds complicated? We need you to make the data come alive.
MAKE IT GREEN
Resources are needed everywhere. Sometimes, however, they are also wasted. Using them wisely and in a targeted way is the right approach to sustainability.
That's the challenge: Find the areas where resources are wasted, energy is consumed unnecessarily, waste can be avoided, or scrap can be fed into new processes. Use your energy to save energy!

When and where will the hackathon take place?
The hackathon will take place from October 04, 2022 (1 p.m. CET) – October 6, 2022 (3 p.m. CET) in Waldkirch near Freiburg, southwest of Germany.
How much does it cost to participate in the hackathon?
100 selected participants will get free travel to Germany and accommodation in Freiburg for the event. Be one of them and send us your application!
How big can a team be?
A minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5 participants per team.
Can I register without a team?
Yes, of course! We will also form teams at the beginning of the SICK solution hackathon on site.
Can I win anything?
We will award the winners in two categories: technological excellence and new business model. The winners of both categories will receive attractive prices.
What do I have to bring?
We take care of the programmable devices, software, cloud. Everything you as a hacker need, beside a laptop and a charger which you must bring with you.
