LiDAR Sensors for Area Monitoring, Anti-Collision, 3D Navigation, 3D Mapping and more ...

LiDAR technology can be used in a number of different applications in all different industries. In industrial settings, LiDAR technology has advanced to a point where manufacturers can use this technology in ways we never thought possible. This technology is truly versatile and has changed the world and, we believe, will continue to do so.

LiDAR sensors are ideal for all conditions - for example:

Indoor Applications:

  • Forklift anti-collision in goods-in/loading bays
  • Anti-collision for AGV's/AMR's
  • Building and perimeter security
  • Area monitoring for precious objects in Art Galleries and Museums
  • 3D object detection for navigation and guidance
  • Non-contact measurement of objects

Outdoor applications:

  • Crane anti-collision in ports
  • 3D navigation assistance for farm or quarry vehicles
  • Contour guidance for driver assistance systems
  • 3D mapping of a terrain or area
  • Vehicle detection in loading bays and at height restrictions
  • Supports SLAM systems

Area Monitoring

Anyone or anything that moves into the scan fields of the LiDAR area monitoring system can be detected and the machine stopped or slowed, to increase productivity and avoid downtime. Where required, you can simply program the device fields to define access to an area without triggering a full system stop.

Anti-Collision

Collision protection for automated mobile carts, cranes, vehicles and any object that could collide with a moving platform. Install a LiDAR scanner to control and warn of imminent hazards.

Navigation

The sensor can detect the movements of autonomous vehicles three-dimensionally and assist them in navigation, e.g. through row crops. Using the 3D point natural landmarks can be identified and the distances between hazards determined. The route of the autonomous vehicle can be planned based on this.

Contour Mapping

SICK’s localisation solutions enable reliable localisation based on natural surrounding contours. It supports several scanners at the same time and is also particularly well suited to flat vehicle types. The smart localisation algorithm guarantees high resistance to changes to the environment.

Building & Area Security

LiDAR Security Sensors from SICK are perfectly suited to object detection applications for reliable building safety and security, object surveillance or perimeter protection.

People Counting

Install a LiDAR scanner to keep track of the number of people entering an area for safety or footfall control measures. Once capacity has been reached a signal can be output as an option. Gather data for resource planning and adapt to changing environments.

Vehicle Detection & Profiling

LiDAR sensors for traffic can determine the height, length, width and speed. Applications include tolling classification, monitoring of roads and traffic infrastructure such as tunnels, and optimizing ferry and train loading processes.

2D LiDAR

2D LiDAR sensors (2D laser scanners as well) are suitable for performing detection and ranging tasks on surfaces. Regardless of the angle of installation, SICK 2D LiDAR sensors operate with consistent reliability and accuracy, and can be used both indoors and outdoors. For navigation, detection, or measurement: 2D LiDAR sensors supply reliable measurement data for a whole host of tasks.

3D LiDAR

3D LiDAR sensors (3D laser scanners as well) detect their environment nearly gap-free, regardless of whether the objects move or not. That is why 3D LiDAR sensors are ideally suited for tasks such as collision protection on automated vehicles or the scanning of objects.
